Lines of Research
The multidisciplinarity of the lines of research investigated in the PPGQ/UFG/RC provides opportunities to professionals to train and qualify both in fundamental areas of chemistry and technological innovations, which are considered important for the development of science in the country. Information about the lines of research offered by the PPGQ/UFG/RC can be found below.
1. Natural Product Chemistry and Biomolecules
This line of research concerns the study of plants and fungi, evaluation of biological activities of extracts, fractions and compounds purified from them, as well as synthetic derivatives aiming to enhance observed biological activities. Plant material is collected from the cerrado, focusing on pest control, development of phytopharmaceuticals and structural clarification of compounds of natural origin.
Professors are part of this line of research:
Profa. Dra. Adriana Freitas Neves
Prof. Dr. Anderson Luiz Ferreira
Profa. Dr. Elaine Rosechrer Carbonero
Profa. Dra. Jocelia Pereira Cardoso de Oliveira
Profa. Dr. Lorenna Ramos F. Sousa
Prof. Dr. Richele Priscila Severino
2. The Environment
Studies in the Environment focus on the development of analytical methodologies to determine pollutants in air, water, soil and other matrices of interest (natural products, food and medicinal plants from the cerrado, etc.). This area also includes the development of clean technologies aimed at preserving natural resources by detecting and/or degrading organic/inorganic pollutants adopting electrochemical/electroanalytical methods or by physical-chemical methods of adsorption in natural products, as well as studies focusing on technology, society and the environment.
Professors are part of this line of research:
Prof. Dr. Alberthmeiry Teixeira de Figueiredo
Prof. Dr. Cristiano Morita Barrado
Prof. Dr. Leonardo Santos Andrade
Prof. Dr. Lincoln Lucílio Romualdo
Prof. Dra. Luciana Melo Coelho
Profa. Dra. Sílvia de Sousa Freitas
Profa. Dra. Vanessa Nunes Alves
3. Material Chemistry
The focus of this line of research is the study of materials sciences, focusing on the development of new materials with technological applications. Materials research has an interdisciplinary character, covering the most diverse fields of engineering and basic sciences. The demand for new materials that perform better and reduce costs or make it possible to improve/develop technologies is growing and, therefore understanding manufacturing processes and techniques, structural characterization and the investigation of properties are essential topics.
